Kid's Book Nook

I'd like to review and suggest great children's books on this page. Parents, caregivers, and teachers are always looking for good books to read to their children or to use in the classroom. 

Book: The City of Ember
Author: Jeanne DuPrau
Reading Level: 4-6 Grade

Summary:The city of Ember was built as a last refuge for the human race. Two hundred years later, the great lamps that light the city are beginning to flicker. When Lina finds part of an ancient message, she’s sure it holds a secret that will save the city. She and her friend Doon must decipher the message before the lights go out on Ember forever!

Review: I really enjoyed this book. I am currently working on a teacher's guide for it with vocabulary, spelling, review questions and more teaching resources! I'll let you know when I'm finished with that!
This book encourages imagination in the children's minds. It lets theme explore and try to create this unknown city that is very different from the world we live in with endless electricity.  The characters are very likable and draw you in to want to read on.  This is a book series of four books. the other books are The People of Sparks, The Prophet of Yonwood, and The Diamond of Darkhold. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
